This page shows examples of wing patterns of Herring Gulls Larus argentatus. Each pair of photos of the full wing and close-up of the greater coverts is from the same bird.

The greater covert patterning and extent and intensity of the "window" on the inner primaries varies considerably on first year birds, and here we present some typical and more unusual patterns shown by birds we have caught for ringing.

For the unusual patterns, we would welcome any information that might help us to assign these bird to a particular race.
